Solar energy is when we harness the suns abundant, free light and turn it into a number of energy forms. Solar energy was first invented by NASA to produce energy (electricity) and has rapidly exploded as one of the go-to sources of renewable energy today.
It is by far one of the cleanest and can be applied to a number of different types of energy in our homes. The most common being;
SOLAR PV
1 daylight reaches the solar panels and is turned into electricty
2 the power is then converted into useable AC electric from DC using and inverter. The inverter is usually kept in the loft and takes the form of a small box
3 As the solar PV system generates more energy then is required the excess gets sold to the national grid
SOLAR THERMAL
1 light landing on solar thermal panels heat liquid which is stored inside
2 When the liquid becomes hot enough, it flows down to heat the water for the house through a heat exhcange to heat heat the hot water tank
3 the fluid is then circulated back up to the thermal panel where it can be re-heated
